The GMT function is a particularly useful function for those who travel a lot, as it allows you to quickly view the local time and place of origin.
Greenwich Mean Time, formerly also called universal time, is a time zone established during the International Conference on the Meridians in Washington in 1884. Starting from the zero meridian of the Earth, the GMT is determined on the basis of measurements of the Earth's rotation.
On the face of a standard watch, a time interval of 12 hours is usually indicated. This means that within 24 hours the hour hand makes two complete turns of the dial. For the GMT indication, the watch has an additional hour hand typically in the shape of an arrow and of a different color than the 12 hour hand. The GMT hand makes only one revolution of the dial within 24 hours, so its rotation speed is half that of the hour hand. Mostly the GMT time is read via the 24-hour bezel or the flange.
