South Sea pearls are rare and precious, they are grown in a giant oyster called Pinctada Maxima, they have record characteristics. Their size is greater than any other cultured pearl. The Pinctada Maxima can reach 25 cm in diameter and weigh up to 5 kg. It is a very delicate mollusc that lives deep (100 meters) has a high mortality percentage up to 80% of the specimens.
