Tahitian pearls are produced by the black-lipped oyster Pinctada Margaritifera, in Tahiti and throughout the French Polynesian archipelago. This oyster is large in size and can reach, although in rare cases, 30 cm in length for a maximum weight of 5 kilos and can produce pearls from 8 up to 16-17 mm.
They have a great variety of colors that range from intense black to light gray through shades of silver grey, copper grey, bronze green, blue and the most sought after "Peacock", or peacock feathers, precisely due to the particularity of having iridescent multicolored reflections like peacock feathers.
South Sea pearls are rare and precious, they are cultivated in a giant oyster called Pinctada Maxima, in fact they have record characteristics. Their size is larger than any other cultured pearl. They have a solid state of pearling, a characteristic that makes them long-lasting for generations. They are so precious and refined that they have been defined as “Queens of Pearls, Pearls of Queens”.
The Pinctada Maxima can reach 25 cm in diameter and weigh up to 5kg. It is a very delicate mollusc that lives in depth (100 meters) and has a high mortality rate up to 80% of specimens.
The colors vary from white to cream to golden yellow. The most valuable are the so-called gold ones. Cultivation occurs by inserting a rigid mother-of-pearl nucleus taken from a shell and a fragment of the epithelium of a Pinctada Maxima oyster into the gonad of the mollusc. The duration of cultivation varies from 20 to 24 months and the growth of the bud is approximately 2mm per year.
This gold ring with diamonds, Tahiti Pearl and South Sea Pearl will be shipped in the original Coscia jewellery box with official guarantee.
